research
I am interested in the ecological physiology of freshwater and
marine invertebrates, particularly bivalves. My Ph.D. research focused
on the physiological strategies that allow bivalves to survive in habitats
characterized by abiotic stressors such as hypoxia (low O2),
hyperoxia (high O2), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
The physiological strategy I studied was the production of stress proteins,
including heat shock proteins and antioxidants. My three study organisms
were: Donax variabilis,
Mercenaria mercenaria,
and Sphaerium sp.

Postdoc research I am interested in examining whether there is a
link between physiological condition and and mutational processes like mutation
rate and spectrum. This work will be done on rhabditid nematodes, including
Caenorhabditis elegans and C. briggsae.
