my photo I'm an associate professor in theoretical ecology, in the Zoology Department at the University of Florida. My interests range widely in spatial, theoretical, mathematical, computational and statistical ecology; plant community, ecosystem, and epidemic dynamics; and whatever else takes my fancy.

Forthcoming book

I'm working on a book (called something like Ecological models and data in R), based on a course that I used to teach with Hilborn and Mangel's Ecological Detective (which is a great book but doesn't have as much of the nitty-gritty technical detail as I think readers need if they're actually going to apply the ideas). Check it out. Feedback is warmly welcome!!

Research and ideas

Teaching

I have taught courses in Ecology and Evolution of Disease (u/g); Ecological Models and Data (grad); Integrative Principles (grad); and Integrative Principles of Biology II (u/g; ecology/evolution/genetics). This semester I'm teaching IP.
